In our business we took a completely different view and set up a link with a computer game design degree and also recruited some game designers.

The mix of instructional design and game designer is very powerful. There are many elements of game theory that can be applied to instructional design but a true mix of skills within the group provides great results.

You might be interested in webinar that myself and Steve Harris from Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge did on the subject for the Association of Learning Technology. http://repository.alt.ac.uk/710/Scott Hewitthttp://www.realprojects.co.uk/gamebasedlearning/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15724579.post-22072376359257384952010-06-30T03:25:15.625-07:002010-06-30T03:25:15.625-07:00wow, I am so excited about the uses of this stuff ...wow, I am so excited about the uses of this stuff for learning! I have never used foursquare before, but I am officially hooked.

The organisation I'm currently working for has a very dispersed population across Australia, so the potential applications for developing communities of practice and bringing learners in similar roles closer together.

Thanks for prompting the thought process, you haven't prescribed applications, but you've led us to the room with all the choices, we just have to identify them.

Cheers.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03598741180774052860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15724579.post-27525779568319674822010-06-29T16:12:53.980-07:002010-06-29T16:12:53.980-07:00I KNOW! Isn't it a strange feeling to actually...I KNOW! Isn't it a strange feeling to actually care about something like being a fictitious Mayor? It definitely fires up that sense of competition a little. Although I had a slightly different school experience. I became the Mayor of the youngest Schlenkerling's school and she said, "oh dad...that's so embarrassing"...she's 8...go figure ;-)
I remember in the early days of twitter people laughed and rolled their eyes and now look at it. Some of my family friends were my most outspoken critics when I introduced them to the likes of Facebook. And NOW those same people are OBSESSED with it...Farmville and all. Now it's me left rolling my eyes.
I see "check ins" heading in the same direction. People laugh now. But give it time and it will be a natural part of everyone's digital life.
I'm looking forward to seeing the innovative learning solutions that incorporate these technologies. Let me know if you hear of any.
Cheers!
Brentbschlenkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13519463877110474192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15724579.post-35864173280097879342010-06-29T09:20:51.289-07:002010-06-29T09:20:51.289-07:00I am loving playing with FourSquare and now TAgWha...I am loving playing with FourSquare and now TAgWhat and other geolocation tools to explore how we can use these to share nuggets of learning. And I had to laugh when I read your comment about feeling a sense of loss.

I did not really care about racking up points or becoming Mayor (whoop-de-do as you said) until I became Mayor of the Schrecklet's school! (I can see some benefits here when she tells the teacher, "My mom is the Mayor here - HA!) but two days later some greedy DAD ripped my crown from my virtual head and I became determined to get it back (which I did) and now see the competition heating up!

How can we bring this fun competitive spirit for learning and adventure into our corporate classrooms--or better yet--how can we bring out corporate classrooms out into the world to learn?

Thanks for this fun post!

GinaGina Schreckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12783605814260155191noreply@blogger.com
