Measuring Engagement ROI - Applies to eLearning as well

Here is a great article from a marketing guy, but the idea covers measuring engagement and how best to measure social media. Many in marketing and in eLearning are struggling with social media and figuring out what/how to measure.

It may not be exactly what you are looking for, or what you need. But the author brings up some good points that might stimulate your thinking in a direction that does get you to your unique answer.

Tell me: Is measuring engagement the right thing to measure? How do you measure it?

ROI equates to how many people are responding to your content and joining your community to hear your message every month. If that’s 100 people, divide the cost of your social media marketing by 100. That’s what engagement is costing you. This means your STRATEGY needs to be to increase the number of followers and also the level of engagement of those followers, thus lowering your costs.

ARDUINO: How to Learn the Basics of Physical Computing

One of the coolest handson activities for learning about electronics...both software, and hardware. The Arduino community is so awesome! When I was a kid we learned about engines, motors, etc, by just tearing them apart. You can make the coolest little projects with kit. If you are into electronics projects, you've got to pickup an adruino. If you've got kids with even the slightest interest in building things and making mini robots, and other cool stuff then you REALLY need to check this out.

Anatomy Arcade: Serious Learning?

Thanks @koreenolbrish for the headsup on this. There is a lot of discussion around serious games. What is a game? What is a serious game? Are most online games just lipstick on the multiple choice pig? Maybe, but well designed and well crafted interactions can help kick it up a notch. I actually enjoyed doing some of the somewhat simplistic activities. You try and let me know what you think, okay?

Instructor Automation: Is this just the beginning?

A virtual piano instructor would be very cool. I'm not exactly sure how the app will work. It could be something as easy as following along a sidescrolling piece of sheet music. OR, perhaps there is the possibility of a live instructor "seeing" and "hearing" you play via HIS computer or iPad and giving you feedback from a distant location.

The possibilities are limitless and exciting. And not only from the learners perspective but think of economics from the teaching perspective. Finding customers is difficult when you are a music teacher because location is a critical part of the business. Either you go to them or they come to you. Its good extra income for many but difficult to make a living. But what if the entire connected world suddenly became your pool of potential students? That's a game changer. And its not just a game changer for piano teachers but for all teachers. Its just going to take some time to get there.
